Each year, about 10-15 freshmen in USTC receive this award which has established itself as one of the most prestigious scholarships in USTC since its inception in 1996. Strictly merit-based, this award is given only to the most outstanding incoming students. The award is matched by USTC. See award guideline here. Some special funds following the guidelines of ONS Award are:

8311: awarded to the top student(s) of the Department of Computer Science (Dept. 11) only (est. 1996).

7761 Award: (est. 1998) awarded to the top student(s) of the Department of Electrical Engineering (dept. 6) only.

杨亚纪念奖学金 Ya Yang Memorial Scholarship , established by friends of Ya Yang (8911) in 1999, awarded to one or more outstanding female entering students at USTC each year, particularly those from low-income families.
Since 2007, Ya Yang Memorial Fund awards top 10 female new students in USTC each year.

Since 2007, 张小真纪念奖学金 ZHANG Xiaozhen Memorial Fund awards one female student Outstanding New Student Award each year.

High School Scholarship Awards.

This is a subcategory of Outstanding New Student Award. Alumni set up about 20 subfunds to award the best high school graduate student from their home high school attending USTC. 优秀青年教师奖(Young Faculty Career Award )

Currently (since 2007), two types of YFCA are issued to about 5 young faculty, at two levels, $5000 and $1000.
Teaching Excellence Award
The Guideline.
To recognize members of the USTC faculty dedicated to teaching, and to increase the awareness of the importance of fundamental courses teaching at USTC. The Teaching Excellence Award (TEA) is awarded annually to about 2 qualified members of the USTC faculty, each with a total cash amount of $1,500.

Inspired by the Hand-in-Hand Project (爱心行动) initiated by students in USTC, this need-based award was established in 1999 to provide financial assistance to about 70 USTC students who need help in order to complete their degrees at USTC. The awardees must be in good academic standing. Priority is given to female students from rural area. See the guideline here.

Goodwill Sponsorship (est. 1999) Currently (since 2007), a sponsor needs to cover four years of study of a sponsored USTC student for $400 a year. To be a sonsor, one can make donations at any time. But usually, each year, around March, sponsors will be solicited by USTCAF. Sponsors then may select a specific individual (or more ) to be sponsored from the candidate list PROVIDED BY THE USTC. In additional to financial need, some minimum academic requirements are checked to ensure the sponsored students will continue to finish the education in USTC under the scholarship.

Some classes jointly provide Goodwill Sponsorship to several students each year. For example, 875 学田纪念奖学金 875 XueTian Memorial Scholarship (est. 1999), 772 Goodwill Scholarship (est. 1999), Future Chemists Fund, 787, 788, 773, 771, 8211, 821, 906, 912, etc.

Many classes and individuals set up specific awards limited to certain departments or colleges. Several large awards are LIU Yadong (774) Teaching Awards, Gifted Youth Class, 813, 817, 8512, 811 HUANG Yu Memorial Fund, etc.
