USTCAF should continue its mission to support USTC
financially and spiritually. On the top of that, it
could make more efforts to build stronger alumni
network and help the alumni succeed. I became a USTCAF
member since 2003 for the purpose of serving the
community. Currently I am a board member for
USTCAA-SV. Since I believe that no organization will
succeed if individuals in the organization are not
successful, my objective is to help promote networking
more within and outside the alumni community and
possibly convert some of them to goal-oriented
activities. If I am elected, I'll focus on improving
communication and boosting career opportunities for
our alumni.

I have served in various alumni and international student organizations,
including USTC AA in Silicon Valley, USTC Alumni Fundation, and 1994
Chair of Auburn University CSSO and Committee Chair of International
Student Organizations.
USTC had it's years of glory in the past. A growing and establishing
network of alumni from those days could be a solid foundation that USTC
can leverage to maintain it's excellence and continue to attract talents.
AF has demonstrated that a strong alumni network can be beneficial for
both USTC and its alumni. Besides financial donation, we can also
contribute our expertise/projects in engineering or academic, by
networking the alumni in engineering, faculty and entrepreneur fields,
and by promoting alumni/industry cooperation with USTC and its entities.
I have been working with other USTCers to organize some
activities爐owards these goals, and would like to continue to work with
other AFGB members and fellow alumni to contribute to the success of USTC
and its alumni.

I think that USTCAF is a very good group to help USTC.
It is a good family for all ustc alumni. It attracted
all alumni together to do many things for USTC. I
will try my best to work on the board if elected. I
will be very proud if I can do some things
for USTCAF and for the future of USTC.

us!
- 陈晓刚 Xiaogang Chen, 9102, oliver-at-ee.columbia.edu
1991-1995, B.S., Physics, USTC

2002-2003, Software Engineer, DNCP/Cemprus Inc.,
2003-present, Ph.D. candidate, E.E., Columbia University
When I was in USTC, I had many experiences in social activities. I had
very happy memories of working for our fellow USTCers, then. After all
these years, I still think it is a great privilege to be able to work for
our Alma Mater and make it better. I would like to join the AF Board
and get a more direct way to contribute to her again.
I think, first of all, we should build a stronger AF so that we may have
more choices to exert our influence to USTC and help those USTCers in
need. To better help USTC, the most critical thing is for the AF to
communicate effectively with the current administratives in USTC. We
should understand the real needs in USTC and convey the concerns of all
USTCers to the current administratives. We should use all means (not
necessarily financial menas) to promote the healthy growth of USTC. To
better serve USTCers, we should build a more closely connected vitual
community globally. We should make AF a bridge or a platform for all
USTCers to show their care for USTC and other USTCers.
If I am honored to be elected, I will try my best to help AF to achieve
the above goals.
Board-Elect Candidates
(Board-elect members would become board members next year.)
- Xiaojun Jie, 揭晓军, 821, xiaojun.jie-at-gmail.com
1987, B.S., Computational Math., USTC.
1990, M.S., Computer Science, Tianjin Computing Technology Research Institute.
1994, M.S., Applied Math., Purdue University.
1998, Ph.D., Applied Math., Purdue Unversity.
As the president of USTC Alumni Association in Maryland between 2002 and 2004, I worked
with other volunteers to setup the web server (thanks for the generous donation
from 821 alumni Li Yanxiu) for website md.ustc.edu and organized local alumni gatherings.
Currently we are
working on offering the web hosting service to all local USTC alumni associations and classes.
The long term goal is to make the site as a central depository of USTC alumni associations
and to offer online management and other services for the AA's.
I'm interested in being a board-elect member. Hopefully, through everybody's hard work, a network
of fund raising
platforms will be established as a result of closer relations between local alumni associations
and the Alumni Fundation.
吴雯 WU Wen, 826 wen.wu-at-wachovia.com
1987, BS in EE, USTC 826
1991, MA in Physics, Temple University
1993, MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Rutgers University
1993-1997 Electronic Payment Systems
1997-present Wachovia Bank NA, Hong Kong
After the USTC 2003 Delegation trip, I witnessed the enthusiasm and effort
that many USTC Alumni have put in for the future of USTC. Through good
team
work a lot of good results have been achieved. I wanted to be more
helpful.
But since it is difficult to foresee how much time I can devote to AF in
year 2004, I would like to start with being a board-elect member.
